Valve Lays off About 25
There never has been word of any kind of serious layoffs at Seattle-based Valve Software, but that apparently happened today. Gamasutra has word that somewhere around 25 Valve employees, most of whom seem to have been hired to work on Android and on building hardware, have been let go. While I seriously doubt this is a sign of Valve in any kind of financial trouble - not that we'd know by any publicly available notice, as the company is privately held - it simply seems like Valve is closing the door on doing this work themselves. I doubt they're stopping work on Steambox projects, but probably instead are deciding to work closely with hardware manufacturers instead.
I wonder if this also means the end of updates for the Steam app for Android, or whether that is a separate employee or group of them.
